Whether or not...Perhaps I was misunderstanding you. Whether or not the LDS Church is organized as a LLC or under the IRS guidelines of 501 (c) (3) is a trivial point. If this is the term of the argument, its already been lost. It's either the true church headed by Jesus Christ or it isn't. Justifying the Church's actions by comparing it to other churches just isn't good enough. The Church should raise to a higher standard....but it doesn't. In order to maintain it's nonprofit status, church doctrine will be bent accordingly. If the IRS decided to add new guidelines that conflicted with current doctrine and jeopardized its tax status, the Church would change that policy before you could say, "polygamy." Apparently, God's direction is that malleable that the purported 'revelations' that members never hear about are always prompted by wiser individuals who are not apart of the church at all. This is the point that I thought you were making; that current church structure just isn't good enough. You are just highlighting something that would otherwise be obvious but--per your last post on the process issues members get caught up in-- isn't. Here again, is the soft apathy of low expectations that the Church sets for us.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2337988965190761352.post-41878118460494460012015-08-22T16:56:02.609+02:002015-08-22T16:56:02.609+02:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2337988965190761352.post-84200201065864787972015-08-22T09:24:32.612+02:002015-08-22T09:24:32.612+02:00Thanks Julie! All churches (that I'm aware of) are organized as corporations or LLCs with a religious scope and nonprofit status. I think I've read that the Catholic Church, as well as the British monarchy, incidentally, is set up as a nonprofit corporation sole.

Nice article, though.
